About Walker Physical Therapy

Is injury or pain keeping you out of practice or threatening your season?

Gymnastics is more than just a sport. You’ve put countless hours into practice, you’ve worked hard to compete at your best, and you’ve become best friends with your team. It’s a big part of your future, too. So while it’s always a pain to get injured, it’s even worse when the doctor or therapist tells you to sit out for a few weeks (or months!). In that time, you could lose progress on your skills, fall behind the other girls in your level, or even risk missing out on the competition season.

Unfortunately, most doctors aren’t used to treating competitive gymnasts and don’t understand what they need. That leads to more time sitting out, less activity when you are at practice, and rushed surgeries that may not be necessary right away. No wonder so many girls with injuries never get back to full strength or, worse, never return at all.

You shouldn’t have to choose between your health and the gymnastics career you’ve invested so much into.

I’m Dr. Christine Walker, and I started Walker Sports PT so you never have to compromise on your passion. My daughter is a competitive gymnast, so I saw first hand how many girls in her gym weren’t getting the advice or the care they needed. Their coaches wanted them to practice as much as they could, but their orthopedic doctors and therapists didn’t know what to tell them other than to rest or wait for surgery.

At Walker Sports PT, we help you stay active, prevent further injury, and get back sooner by working with both your doctors and your coaches. First, we give you a full evaluation from a therapist who knows both gymnastics injuries and what the sport demands, so you can be certain you’re doing the right thing at the right time. Sometimes surgery or rest might be necessary, but often it can be avoided completely or delayed until after the season with the right therapies.

Next, we work with your coaches to modify your training so you can continue to practice and develop your skills as much as possible. We don’t simply tell you all the things you can’t do, we actively find ways you can stay strong, sharp, and safe while you recover. You’ll get to stay involved with your team, and your coaches will love to see you participating.

The real goal, however, is to get you back without restrictions or pain and better than you were before. That’s why we continue working with you to find and correct the imbalances or weaknesses that may have caused you to become injured in the first place. With exercises designed to strengthen your body for the specific requirements of competitive gymnastics, you can actually prove your power, stability, and balance, so you can prevent future injuries and perform at your best.

Whether your goal is reaching level 10, making nationals, competing in college, or just enjoying the sport, don’t let injuries bottle up your dreams. You’re no stranger to working hard or achieving incredible feats. With the right care, you can overcome any injury and fly higher than ever.

Christine was the best! My daughter had an elbow injury that the doctor said would require surgery. He told us to sit out for 6 weeks, but Christine helped her figure out the skills she could keep working on. Now, 6 weeks later, she's feeling better, doesn't need surgery, and is getting ready for the season! Thank you!

When my back started hurting after practice one day, Dr. Walker saw me for free and taught me what I was doing wrong to put strain on my back. Now it feels so much better, I don't think I need to see the surgeon anymore. I'm working with her instead!
